Description
"It was around year 1900 that Herman Norrman enjoyed a greater success as an artist on the Swedish art scene. In the 1880s and 1890s, he had devoted himself to art studies in Stockholm and Gothenburg, as well as longer stays in both New York and Paris. The self-portrait from 1891 is painted in Paris. The artist poses with a straightforward look, but with a modest elegance- the tie is loosely tied around the neck, and the pipe is stylishly held between the fingers. Norrman got his breakthrough through his participation in an exhibition arranged by Konstnärsförbundet (the Artists’ Association) in 1898."
