The work is included in Bukowski's Christmas catalog of 1905, and the sale of Christian Hammer's collections where it is attributed "German master from the end of the 16th century" and originating from a commissioner Bogren's collection. The auctions of the Hammerska collections took place on 5 and 6 December 1905. The draft of the Thielska Gallery Foundation's unprinted catalog 1929 - 1930 states 1906 as the year of purchase.
